AKC Hunt Tests - June 18th 8:00am June 19th 8:00am June 20th 8:00am

Hunt tests were developed in the 80's when hunters wanted to be able to title their dog to show its hunting capabilities, but didn't have the time or resources to keep up with the professional and amateur dog trainers at field trials. The AKC developed the retriever hunting test, which offered titles as a Junior Hunter, Senior Hunter, and Master Hunter.

Junior Test requires a dog to make single marked retrieves on land and water. The dogs can be held by the collar at the line by the handler. Junior tests are considered to be achievable by a trained hunting dog.

Senior Tests are made up of double marked retrieves on land and in the water, and involves a simple blind retrieve on land. No restraint may be used at the line for this test, and an honor of another retrieving competitor must be completed. Senior tests are achievable but require more work than a junior hunter.

Master Hunter Test involves tasks that only an experienced hunting retriever could complete. Marks consist of multiple land retrieves as well as land and water combination retrieves. Not only are the master blind retrieves challenging on land and water, but the dog must also complete a double blind. The master test is quite a thrill to watch and even more exciting to compete in.

CMRC extends an invitation to anyone wanting to partake in our hunt test June 18th, 19th, and the 20th. We are always looking forward to greeting and introducing new faces into our passion for retrievers.
