Retriever field trials we born in the late 1920s when a group of hunters wanted to be able to evaluate the abilities of their retrievers. Most trials have four events, two major events and two minor events. In the major events championship points are awarded to the points count of the dogs Field Champion and Amateur Field Champion status.

Open All-Age - This stake is open to both professional trainers and amateur trainers. This trial is considered to be the toughest.

Amateur All-Age - This stake is the same as the Open, but only amateur trainers may participate.

The minor stakes consist of the Qualifying and the Derby.

Qualifying - similar to an all age stake but less difficult.

Derby - This stake is only open to dogs 6 months - 2 years of age. The derby usually consists of one to three marks.

Field trials often generate a great crowd who come to watch some of the best dogs and handlers in the nation. CMRC's trial dates are May 28th through the 30th and August 6th through the 8th. As always we invite you to come out and participate in the fun.
